It started with one man, one house, and a raise and build under.
In 1989 Philip completed his first major renovation on his own: a Queenslander raised with a new level built beneath it. What began as one man’s determination became a steady trade in Brisbane’s inner city suburbs, and with every house Philip built a reputation for hard work, quality and trust.
As the years went on the family grew, and so did the business. The moment his three children were old enough to push a wheelbarrow they were on site beside him, learning the trade.
In 2006 the business was incorporated as FSX Developments, named for Fletcher, Sebastian and Xanthe, and in 2019 the second generation rebranded it as Stark Builders. Today the original house is a design and build studio in Fairfield with its own design team and one dedicated construction crew, still taking on a select number of houses a year so that every one gets the whole studio’s attention.

After years of study and dedication to his craft, Philip has received his open licence and is now operating as a sole trader.

Stark Builders is born
FSX Developments, incorporated in 2006 and named for the three children, begins trading as Stark Builders.

PHILIP
Philip started the business in 1989 with a raise and build under he completed on his own, and still oversees the builds today. The standard he set is the one the company is held to.
FLETCHER
Fletcher grew up on building sites and trained as an engineer. He runs the company day to day and leads each project from the first meeting to handover.
XANTHE
Project & Interior Coordinator
Xanthe runs the design studio and the end trades, from the joiner's shop drawings through to the final fixings. She manages each project through the final stages.
SEBASTIAN
Estimator & Systems
Sebastian prices every job that comes in and builds the systems the business runs on, from how an enquiry is answered through to how a job is tracked and closed out.

A great house starts with a great design, and a great design is one that can be built for what it was priced at. So we keep both under one roof.
On most renovations you find out what the house costs after it has been designed, when the expensive decisions are already made. We price as we draw, so you know what each decision costs while there is still time to change it.
We specialise in timber character homes because that is most of what Brisbane has. Thirty-seven years of working on Queenslanders means we understand where the issues lie. Building is not just our trade. It is the family’s lifelong passion.
